I often talk about the importance of foreplay and communication in my blog posts and the articles that I write but someone asked me the other day exactly what constitutes foreplay and it got me thinking.

Foreplay is a big part of communication and vice versa. If your partner is just hopping in bed and going for it you need to be able to communicate either through words or actions what would make the experience more satisfying for both of you.

Foreplay is not necessarily only something that is done in the bedroom – your daily actions play a big part in how you and your mate perceive each other and can affect the vibe of your love life. Constant nagging or appearing disinterested in your partner’s interests can leave him feeling underappreciated or ignored. Failing to share the household burden or just give moral support can leave her feeling like you do not cherish her or find her sexy as a person. It takes time and effort every day to tend to a relationship – think of it as foreplay to foreplay.

It is also worth noting that men and women generally need a different kind of foreplay – men tend to respond to more immediate tactile advances while women tend to experience the whole of the relationship as a prelude to intercourse and a couple of bad days can do as much damage to your night of passion as a cold shower.

Sometimes men will need prolonged foreplay to get an erection and some are raring to go at the drop of a hat (or your lingerie). Physical foreplay for men is usually pretty basic. The direct touching of the genitals will often do the trick. If you want to tantalize your man here are some maneuvers to work into your act:

Show me the honey!

Men are very visually driven, so sexy clothing is helpful, but giving him an unobstructed view of that which he desires can be sexier than any lingerie. Perform a slow strip tease or surprise him by serving dinner or drinks in next to nothing.

Steam it up

Run your parted lips over his body and exhale slowly. The warm moist air of your breath will change the temperature of his skin and heighten his arousal.

Who’s the Boss?

Seize control of the situation – take charge of the night. Many women would be surprised to know that men like to be taken in passion as much as women. Being sexually aggressive is a sign of a lusty appetite and shows that you’re as into things as he is.

Just a Little Touch

Men are especially receptive to tactile stimulation when aroused. Do something different – run silk over his back, make long but gentle scratches up and down his back or drape your hair over his member.

Take a Break

Stimulate him just to the brink and then draw back a little. You do not have to stop your lovemaking, but ease up and put off the reward for a while. This is also a good technique for prolonging an erection.

And for her…..

Women need physical foreplay to become properly lubricated for intercourse. Direct genital touching is not always the best way to get your woman hot and bothered. In fact, making that the last place to visit is often a good technique for arousing her. Let her know in words and actions that you want her, that you find her sexy, that you REALLY need her.

Say Anything

Nothing is more important in foreplay to a woman than feeling like the two of you have a connection. Tell her often that you were thinking about her. When out without her, instead of saying how much fun you had with the guys, tell her it was fine but you missed her. Don’t lie and there is no need for flowery Valentine’s Day speech, just honest feelings and caring conversation.

Being intimate does not always have to mean having sex. Ask her probing questions and listen to her answers, you might learn something helpful. Strive to give her more than one-word replies when she asks you the same kinds of questions. Confide in her, don’t shut her out of your thoughts and feelings. Women like to KNOW the person they are with. Sex in a relationship is a very personal thing and leaves a person feeling vulnerable so needs to have a basis of trust and caring.

Touchy Feely

Make lots of physical contact without being sexual, like holding hands, brushing her hair, giving her short shoulder massages throughout the day or kisses in the hallway as you go about your daily routine. Do anything to make contact without it having to be sexual. She will remember it and crave more touching later.

Kiss This

For most women kissing is an incredible turn on. A woman sees kissing as a form of emotional intimacy. If you attack her with your tongue hanging out she is probably not going to feel very sexy, so start with a brief caressing of lips or some kissed on the neck. Pay attention to how she responds and let it go from there. Try to have a long interval between starting kissing and actually “heavy petting” just like in high school – the anticipation is half of the fun.

Take your time with your foreplay, usually longer stimulation results in heightened sensitivity and sends your senses haywire – leading to explosive orgasm. Breaking routine, exploration, new places, new positions, role playing and letting your lover know what is satisfying you or not are important elements in foreplay.

One final word for both men and women to remember – When in doubt, imitate what your partner is doing, as it is almost always a sign of what he or she likes!

Film project aims to raise £1 million to make a Creative Commons-licensed film

Friday, June 23, 2006

Matt Hanson aims to raise £1 million to fund the production of a feature-length film which would be distributed freely via the Internet under a Creative Commons licence, all funded through 50,000 people each donating £25 to the project, which he’s called ‘A Swarm of Angels‘.

No stranger to filmmaking, Matt has produced numerous digital short films, a series of books on digital filmmaking and set up the digital film festival onedotzero, now in its tenth year. He wants to finally make a feature length film, and decided that it was better to turn to the Internet for help and funding rather than plod through the usual ‘development hell‘.

“I wanted to put into practice what I’ve been preaching as a film futurist for ten years, and the technology and Internet infrastructure has just really caught up with that vision now for me to put it into practice.”

The process is inspired by the ‘web 2.0‘ movement, using social and collaborative communities on the Internet. Matt doesn’t see the funding as coming from donations, but as people paying a subscription to become part of a ‘Swarm’. “Rather than the ‘many producer’ model, this is more of an [sic] ‘smart consumer’ model … members can help implement and bring their expertise into play, and so become more actively involved in the production.”

The project hopes to use professional actors and crew, but use qualified members from the swarm as much as possible. The cast and the crew, including any volunteers that get chosen, would be paid for their work on the film, with Matt suggesting that this is “a great way for people to get into the industry”.

Those members not directly involved in making the film can still participate in the process by discussing ideas on a messageboard, and having a vote on certain crucial decisions such as which script gets chosen for production. Asked how he would balance his own creative direction with input from members, Matt said “my vision will lead the project forward and define the parameters, but the Swarm can influence that, and indeed offer improvements or insights I might not think of alone”.

“Remember filmmaking is always a team effort – whether you are Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick or Jean Luc Godard, you promote people within the project that will complement and bring something extra to the vision of the film. Give it more life. With the Swarm we are making that process more democratic, and giving a wider range of people an opportunity to shine and have creative input.”

Members are promised a collector’s edition DVD of the end product and exclusive merchandise, but the main distribution of the film will be via the Internet, using ‘BitTorrent‘ and peer-to-peer networks. “Unlike many other filmmakers, I’m not wedded to cinema projection as the ‘be all and end all’ – I’m much more excited about people viewing remixed versions on their video iPods,” explains Matt.

The ‘remixing’ of the film will be possible thanks to it being distributed under a Creative Commons licence. Matt suggests that the ‘younger generation’ is more used to being involved with and interacting with entertainment, and points to remixes of the Star Wars films (eg ‘The Phantom Edit‘) as an example of these ‘mashups’. “At the end of the project I would love to have an event that showcased five wildly different versions of the film, different visions from people other than my definitive initial edit,” he suggests. The licence will be for non-commercial use only, however, and so commercial TV stations would still have to pay in order to screen the film.

The project is partly inspired by the success of ‘The Million Dollar Homepage‘, in which British student Alex Tew aimed to raise a million dollars to fund his university education, simply by selling advertising space on a single web page. The publicity surrounding the idea, coupled with the ‘viral’ effect of Internet users passing the page on, meant that he eventually managed to make himself the million dollars.

The success of these projects partly seems to depend on them being interesting and original enough to attract enough attention, and it’s often difficult to see how they could be repeated. Copy-cat versions of the million dollar homepage have so far failed to hugely take off. When asked about this idea, Matt responded “I already expect people to copy the model we are inventing with A Swarm of Angels – it’s a perfect way to create cult media, where the director gets more creative control and organically funds a project, and the fans of the project get more involvement within it. If the market gets too crowded with these projects though, then they’ll have to be packaged differently to stand out. But that’s what traditional film and media projects need to do anyway.”

Over 600 members have signed up to the ‘swarm’ so far, which Matt comments is already an early success, but 50,000 members in total will be needed in order to fully fund the £1 million budget. Matt suggests that getting to the next stage, of reaching 1,000 members, followed by the phase of getting 5,000 members, will be the hardest part, as after that the film will be more ‘tangible’. He expects to raise the full budget, but comments that if the fundraising stalls, “options will be presented by advisors and The Swarm, and based on some kind of consensus we’ll come up with the best option for moving forward.”

Traditionally, independent films are funded either through persuading wealthy individuals to invest, who sometimes are sometimes given ‘Executive Producer‘ credits, or through organisations like the UK Film Council, who award funds from the National Lottery. A tax credit for producers making small films in the UK was announced by the government in 2005, in a bid to give a boost to the UK independent film industry.

Matt says that the film will be “a thriller with soft science fiction elements”, which he says will suit his target audience. “But it will have an indie edginess to it, and be far more visually inventive than you would get with a ‘normal’ British independent feature.” Contributors to the project include artists The Kleptones, who will help with the soundtrack, comic book writer Warren Ellis and documentary filmmaker Grant Gee.

The Swarm of Angels project is online at aswarmofangels.com and costs £25 as an individual to become a member.

Crazy Fun Crafts

By Lily Morgan

Crafts can get a little bit boring when you always do the same thing over and over again. Kids and adults both get bored easy when not being entertained any longer. Try breaking out of the craft blues by expanding your search to something new and maybe a little bit crazy. Forget about folding things out of napkins or making cards and paper plate masks. Go beyond the boring to something that is enjoyable after it has been created. There are some crazy crafts out there that also become a useful household item. It doesnt take as much as youd assume. If you have the time and the interest, these items are just a few steps away.

The printer is a wonderful invention. Over time it has just kept getting better. Thanks to special printer paper one can now print their own t-shirt designs at home. Most department stores carry t-shirt paper. Simply select the picture you want to put on it, print it out on the special paper then iron it on to your t-shirt. It works exceptionally well and papers can be purchased for light and dark t-shirts. This is a good craft for any age group. Design your own unique t-shirt print that no one else will ever have. It can also be a great gift item.

Similar to the t-shirt idea, there are also great types of sticker paper that one can use in the printer. Try making your own stickers or print out your favourite pictures in a sticker format. Those who collect stickers and keep a scrapbook album of them might especially enjoy this type of craft. Stickers can be a lot of fun and this craft would be perfect for adding in to a kids birthday party. Everyone gets their own stickers that they can take home.

Statues may not be something we all are inclined to make. However, you can buy statues already made but not painted. This leaves the hand painting of the piece up to you. There is no better way to have something original like a scaled dragon or howling wolf done exactly how you want it. The best part is that when you are finished you have a wonderful dcor piece to place within your home. Dont hesitate to give these as gifts. Anyone that receives one will be impressed with your handy work.

Even a basic object like a mirror can be the ultimate craft item. There is no end to the ways you can decorate a mirror. Create a border using feathers or even something like iron. Use lettering to spell your name or initials along the bottom. In just a few minutes a regular mirror can be doubled in value simply because you added some accents on to it. This works just as well with candelabra and candle holders.

A touch of design can add a whole new look to something thats just been sitting around the house. Go beyond the regular and the boring.

G20 Summit plans to inject US$5tn into economy before 2011
Posted by , No Comments

Friday, April 3, 2009

The G20 Summit held in London, England concluded Thursday with an injection into the economy of US$5 trillion by the end of 2010.

Global trade would be supported by $250 billion (169.5 billion pounds). “We are going to act decisively to kickstart international trade. We will ensure availability of at least $250 billion over the next two years,” said Gordon Brown Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

The International Monetary Fund IMF will have access to $750bn in resources of which $250bn will support special drawing rights.

Developing countries received $100bn which will be dispensed via Multilateral development banks. Towards this end, the IMF will sell off gold reserves.

China will support the IMF fund by $40bn, the European Union by $100bn, and Japan by $100bn.

There will be increased regulation on banking and credit ratings agencies. There was a commitment to clamp down on hedge funds, tax havens and toxic assets. To restore consumer confidence in the financial sector, a new Financial Stability Board will be initiated internationally. There would be new policies implemented to control pay and bonuses paid to the heads of banks and corporations.

The G20 leaders were adverse to protectionism and rallied to support international trade and investment.

The Leaders’ statement said, “We reaffirm the commitment made in Washington: to refrain from raising new barriers to investment or to trade in goods and services, imposing new export restrictions, or implementing World Trade Organization (WTO) inconsistent measures to stimulate exports.”

Eoin O’Malley, senior adviser on international trade at BusinessEurope, said “The measure also needs to be part of wider package to avoid protectionism and conclude the Doha round which will stimulate trade growth. The key point now is to move forward with Doha. The key now is implementation. G20 governments must act quickly to provide this finance to companies that need it urgently.”

5 Htp (5 Hydroxy Tryptophan) Supplements And How It Helps With Depression, Obesity, Fibromyalgia, Insomnia, Chronic Headache And Diabetes

By Georg Kharchenko

5-HTP (5 hydroxy-tryptophan) is a naturally occurring substance in the human body that is also the rate-limiting step in the biochemical synthesis of serotonin. In this synthesis, [,-tryptophan is converted to 5-HTP by the enzyme tryptophan hydrolase, and then serotonin is produced from 5-HTP. If the tryptophan hydrolase enzyme is inhibited, serotonin is not produced. Several factors might inhibit this enzyme, such as stress, vitamin B6 deficiency, insufficient magnesium, and insulin resistance. No significant level of 5-HTP is in the diet, but dietary supplements of 5-HTP made from the African plant Griffonin simplicifolia are available. Supplementation of 5-HTP bypasses any deficiency or dysfunction in this enzyme’s metabolism of serotonin and therefore results in higher serotonin levels.

Although the hypothesis that serotonin levels can be improved with the supplementation of 5-11TP is probable, the clinical evidence for its efficacy is poor, and more well-designed studies are needed to ascertain which conditions respond best to supplementation. Additionally, wider availability of 5-HTP supplements requires quality assurances that eos-inophilia-myalgia syndrome (EMS)-type reactions will not occur (see the “Safety/Dosage” subsection of this section).

Depression

A meta-analysis of the literature published from 1966 to 2000 on the use of 5-HTP and L-tryptophan for unipolar depression found that of 108 studies, only 2 (one on 5-HTP} met the study criteria. The review analysis suggested that both 5-HTP and L-tiyptophan are better than placebo in the treatment of depression. The authors concluded that although positive studies are numerous, they are of poor quality and better-designed research is needed to make clinical recommendations (Shaw et al., 2002a, 2002b).

An open comparison between 5-HTP and tranylcypromine was conducted in patients with major depression who were unsuccessfully treated by at least two other cyclic antidepressant drugs. The 5-HTP -treated group showed no improvement, whereas the trany Icy pro mine-treated group showed efficacy in 50% of the patients tested. Those that responded to the tranylcypromine had depression that was more endogenous and of shorter duration than those that did not respond to its treatment (Nolen et al., 1988).

A double-blind, placebo-controlled comparison was conducted on 5-HTP and clomipramine in anxiety patients. A 90-item symptoms checklist and the state scale of the Spieiberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were used as assessment parameters. The study found that 5-HTP did not alter the associated depressive symptomatology and compared with a placebo, showed only a moderate reduction in all the rating scales, whereas clomipramine showed significant improvements in all the rating scales (Kahn et al., 1987).

Major depressive patients who were unsuccessfully treated by other reuptake inhibitors were enrolled in an open, controlled, crossover comparison between 5-HTP and tranylcypromine. After 4 weeks of treatment (in a crossover design), no responses were found in the 17 patients in the 5-IITP group, but 15 of the 26 patients in the tranylcypromine group responded- The authors concluded that 5-HTP was not a viable option for patients with major depression that had not responded to other reuptake inhibitors (Nolen et ah, 1985).

Obesity

The influence of 5-HTP on obesity was studied in 20 obese patients in a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study. Either a placebo or 900 mg/day of 5-HTP was given to the subjects for two consecutive 6-week periods, with no dietary restrictions prescribed for the first period and a 5,040-kJ/day diet prescribed for the second period. The treatment group showed a significant weight loss for both periods of 5-HTP treatment, along with reductions in carbohydrate intake and increases in early satiety (Cangiano et ah, 1992).

In a double-blind, crossover study involving 19 obese women, 5-HTP (8 mg/kg daily) was administered to subjects with body mass indexes between 30 and 40 for 5 weeks. No changes in mood were observed with 5-HTP administration, but it did result in decreased food intake and weight loss (Ceci et ah, 1989).

Fibromyalgia

Puttini and Caruso (1992) tested 5-HTP in fibromyalgia patients using an open 90-day study design. The clinical variables tested for fibromyalgia (tender points, anxiety, pain, quality of sleep, and fatigue) showed an overall improvement compared with baseline, with approximately 50% of patients showing a “good” or “fair” clinical improvement. About 30% of the subjects treated reported side effects, but only one patient withdrew from the study for that reason.

In an earlier study on 5-HTP for fibromyalgia, 50 patients were enrolled in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study design. The authors found that all clinical parameters significantly improved, noting only mild or transient side effects (Caruso et ah, 1990).

Insomnia and Sleep Disorders

5-1ITP was tested in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study of 48 students with recurring headaches and sleep disorders. The authors concluded that 5-HTP can reduce headaches and sleep disorders, especially frequent awakenings and parasomnias (De Ciorgis et ah, 1987).

Chronic Headache

Because previous studies on 5-HTP had been inconclusive, a double-blind crossover study involving 31 patients looked at the role of 5-HTP in mitigating chronic primary headache. In the treatment group, 5-HTP was administered in doses of 400 mg/day orally for 2 months. Treatment with 5-HTP resulted in a nonsignificant reduction in severity and frequency of headache, and mild and transient side effects occurring in 19% of the treatment group (De Benedittis and Massei, 1985).

In a study to characterize the clinical subgroup that responds best to 5-11TP treatment, 100 patients with chronic primary headache were given 300 mg/day. The clinical subgroup that responded best was identified as having major mood disturbances, minor frequency of anxiety, and previous positive response to pizotifcn treatment, longer disease occurrence, and higher frequency of associated symptoms (Bono et al., 1984).

Diabetes

Because diabetes mellitus is associated with low levels of serotonin in the brain, carbohydrate cravings, and overeating, the use of 5-1ITP was clinically tested for its ability to normalize serotonin and eating behaviors in diabetic patients. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study, 5-HTP was given to 25 overweight patients with diabetes mellitus in 750-mg/day doses or placebo for 2 weeks. Treatment with 5-HTP resulted in significant reductions of brain tiyptophan, body weight, and daily energy intake compared with placebo (Cangiano et al., 1998).

Generally, the initial dosage recommended for 5-HTP is 50 mg 3 times daily, and the dosage is increased to up to 900 mg/day until the desired effect is noted. Not enough clinical data are available to safely recommend 5-HTP treatment in pregnant or lactating women. Interactions may exist between 5-HTP and other antidepressant products, especially selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

The foremost concern regarding the use of 5-IITP is the possibility of people contracting EMS, similar to a 1983 episode in which a contaminated batch of L-tryptophan was linked lo production methods involving bacterial fermentation followed by inadequate filtration. Because 5-HTP is produced by extraction from plant sources, however, such contamination is unlikely to occur. Nonetheless, two reported cases of HMS-like symptoms have been described in patients taking 5-HTP. One case in 1980 involved the use of very high doses (1,400 mg/day); the product itself was never tested for contamination. A second case involved a family (a mother and two children) who had been confirmed to have taken contaminated 5-IITP (Bono et al., 1994; Michelson et al., 1994).

Another concern regarding the use of 5-1ITP is the possibility of developing heart valve disease. In 1997, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) banned the sale of redux and fen-phen because of an “unacceptable risk” of developing heart valve disease. According to Michael Murray, there have been “no reports of heart valve disease or other problems related lo serotonin syndrome in people who take 5-HTP by itself” (Puttini and Caruso, 1992).

Friday, March 18, 2011

A week ago today, at 2:46 pm JST, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake struck off the coast of the T?hoku region in Japan. The earthquake created an extremely destructive tsunami that spawned 10 metre (33 ft) high waves just moments later. The tsunami travelled 10 km (6 mi) inland causing massive destruction in the country’s northeast, including crippling a nuclear plant.

The earthquake and resulting tsunami have left 5,692 dead and over 9,506 missing, with nearly 450,000 homeless. The death toll is expected to rise.

In this special photoessay, Wikinews looks at the earthquake and tsunami, the destruction that resulted and efforts to bring aid to the Japanese people.
