The natural course of a human life dictates to build new houses and ruin the old ones. Thus disciplines are needed so to take care of all forms of buildings including our homes. Therefore has appeared the construction and architecture for that purpose. These disciplines have developed to a point where people could admire their progress. The architectural design of the buildings is not the only subject to admiration but the strength of the building materials too.

The long-standing building construction requires building repairs

, so the newest one requests the same. As many building materials are used in these processes this time we will discuss once more the concrete as it is the most used construction material.

Concrete is not a regular building material but very powerful indeed. Its implementation takes place in many different kinds of building projects. One of its uses is in the asphalt concreting. Actually the asphalt is the dark grey or black surface mostly bedded on roads and commercial areas. It is used in domestic undertakings as pathways or driveways and is much practiced as well. The main reason for its application in this case is its easily repaired advantage. Once the asphalt concrete is damaged the same could be easily changed and only repair the damaged area of the asphalts surface. Another use of this building material is the retaining walls. Even if someone thinks that the concrete retaining walls are only for a special feature in any garden the purpose of its use is much bigger. It can be used for building a terrace or even more to hold heavy loads. Furthermore, concrete is the most common building material for house and building foundations. The reason is seen in its toughness and durability. Since a little failure in knowledge can produce destroyable consequences regarding the matter so be aware that this kind of building undertaking as foundations is a serious thing. Some will advise you to evaluate the type of the soil first on which the foundations would be made and alone to start the process of foundations. However the professionals have the needed knowledge so it would be advisable to ask for their professional help and opinion when making the foundations especially if its purpose would be to stand some heavy objects as fleet on that area. Since the time has passed of self – made houses, nowadays there are many professionals and companies that undertake professional care and work on building houses, building repairs

, refurbishment, facade restoration and many other building activities applied to all commercial and residential properties.

Queen Elizabeth II arrives in Australia for 15th visit

Monday, March 13, 2006

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip arrived in Australia yesterday for a five-day tour which includes the opening of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, the Queen’s 15th visit of her reign and her first since 2002.

Their tour began when they landed at Fairburn Air Force Base in Canberra where they received a state welcome, attended by Prime Minister John Howard, Governor-General Major General Michael Jeffery and several hundred well-wishers. The couple accepted flowers and chatted with the crowd for a few minutes before being driven off in a black Rolls Royce.

The Queen and Prince Philip spent last night at Government House before beginning official duties in Sydney today. In Sydney, they will officially open the new colonnade of Sydney Opera House and receive a 21 gun salute.

Republican campaigners have used the occasion as an opportunity to reopen the republican debate.

“While the queen is held in great affection by the Australian people, many Australians recognize that it is no longer sensible for us to have a citizen of another country, who visits Australia only occasionally, as our head of state,” said Allison Henry, national director of the Australian Republican Movement.

Landslide causes train derailment in Italy; nine dead

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

At least nine people have died in northern Italy after a landslide caused the derailment of a passenger train. A further 25 people were injured, according to emergency services.

The incident occurred earlier this morning near the border with Austria, in a mountainous region near Merano, a city around 300 kilometres north of Venice.

“There are nine confirmed victims, while 28 people have been injured, seven of them seriously,” reported the governor of the Bolzano-Bozen province, Luis Durnwalder, to the Reuters news service. Initially, eleven people were reported dead, due to what the governor described as a “counting error”. However, he noted that “there could still be someone buried in the mud”, so the death count is not yet final.

According to the ANSA news agency, the train had about forty passengers on board when it derailed. Sky TV, meanwhile, quoted officials as saying that three people are reported to be missing. The authorities say the landslide was due to a broken irrigation pipe, which caused rocks to fall onto the tracks below. Authorities say they are looking into why the pipe burst.

The trains front car hit two trees upon derailment, local media says, which prevented it from dropping off into a river below. The carriage, however, was hanging over the river, and firefighters had to use cables to stop it from falling any more. A crane was also dispatched the scene to help clean up debris, ANSA reported.

“The train is hanging off the rails about five meters from the river. It is now only a few trees that are holding up the train and preventing it falling into the river,” said a witness, Alex Rowbotham, to the BBC.

“[…] The landslide occurred at the very passage of the train. It hit the train,” said Thomas Widmann, a transport official for the city of Bolanzo.

The crash was the deadliest in Europe since February, when eighteen people died after two commuter trains ran into each other near Brussels, Belgium. Italy saw its worse rail crash two decades ago, when 29 people died following the derailment of a freight train carrying petroleum gas, resulting in several explosions.

A criminal background is something none of us ever hope to earn. Having a criminal background is more than a status – it’s a permanent warning label. This label creates a barrier that tanks tons of opportunities, like job offers, college degrees, home purchases, and more. Make sure that this never happens to you by hiring an excellent criminal defense attorney in Sugar Land.

Is it possible to have a criminal background even if you’re not guilty?

There are innocent people with criminal backgrounds. The possibilities are endless; either the police have been too aggressive, evidence was tampered with or overlooked, or you might have been framed. These are just some of what may lead to someone having a false criminal background. The David Hunter Law Firm makes sure that you have the best support that you can get so you can fight back.

What is a lawyer?

A lawyer is a professional who stands up for you and fights for your rights when you need to be defended. A domestic violence lawyer will defend your reputation when abuse or violence is threatening to ruin it. A drug charges lawyer takes care of any case, concern, or misunderstanding related to drugs. A DWI lawyer is what you’ll need if you were accused of driving while intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol. A good criminal defense attorney in Sugar Land can handle one or more different kinds of cases like this.

You Need the Best

Whatever kind of lawyer you may need, it’s important to not just have a good one but the best one. Finding the best lawyer near you can be one of the hardest decision you’ve ever made for yourself, but a worthwhile one. You want someone who will fearlessly face the judge with you, confident that they can prove your innocence; and making sure that a criminal background will never taint your name and your life.

Four new breeds in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

This year, four breeds of dogs are competing for the first time in the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, United States.

The new breeds making their Westminister debuts this year, are the Plott, a hunting hound originally bred by two German immigrant brothers in North Carolina; the Tibetan Mastiff, once described by Marco Polo as “tall as a donkey with a voice as powerful as that of a lion.”; the Beauceron, a herding dog originally bred to herd flocks of sheep in France, later used to sniff out landmines and send messages during the World Wars; and the Swedish Vallhund, a breed dating back to the time of the Vikings, used on farms to catch vermin, herd cattle, and as a guard dog, noted for its double coat and harness markings.

This brings the number of unique breeds competing in the famous dog show to 169.

The Plott, the Beauceron, and the Vallhund were shown on Monday. The Tibetan Mastiff will be shown tonight as part of the Working Group.

Ren and Stimpy. Bugs Bunny. Philip J. Fry and Professor Hubert Farnsworth on Futurama. Sparx. Bi-Polar Bear. Popeye the Sailor Man. Woody Woodpecker. You may not think you have ever heard Billy West, but chances are on a television program, a movie, a commercial, or as Howard Stern’s voice guru in the 1990’s, you have heard him. West’s talent for creating personalities by twisting his voice has made him one of a handful of voice actors—Hank Azaria and the late Mel Blanc come to mind—who have achieved celebrity for their talent. Indeed, West is one of the few voice actors who can impersonate Blanc in his prime, including characterizations of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd and other characters from Warner Bros. cartoons.

What is the fulcrum in Mr. West’s life that led him to realize a talent to shape personalities with his voice, and how did the discovery of that gift shape him? Wikinews reporter David Shankbone found that like many great comedians, West faced more sour early in life than he did sweet. The sour came from a physically and emotionally abusive alcoholic father (“I could tell you the kind of night I was going to have from the sound of the key in the door or the way the car pulled up.”), to his own problems with drug and alcohol use (“There is a point that you can reach in your life where you don’t want to live, but you haven’t made the decision to die.”).

I’m telling you stuff that I never said to anybody…

If sin, suffering and redemption feel like the stages of an endless cycle of American existence, West’s own redemption from his brutalized childhood is what helped shape his gift. He performed little bits to cheer up his cowed mother, ravaged by the fact she could not stop her husband’s abuse of young West. “I was the whipping boy and she would just be reduced to tears a lot of times, and I would come in and say stuff, and I would put out little bits just to pull her out of it.”

But West has also enjoyed the sweet. His career blossomed as his talent for creating entire histories behind fictional characters and creatures simply by exploring nuance in his voice landed him at the top of his craft. You may never again be able to forget that behind the voice of your favorite character, there is often an extraordinary life.

Below is David Shankbone’s interview with renowned voice actor Billy West, who for the first time publicly talks about the horrors he faced in his childhood; his misguided search for answers in anger, drugs and alcohol; and the peace he has achieved as one of America’s most recognizable voice actors.
